How to force stop apps on iPhone xs

Before now, the process of force-closing, or quitting, an app on the iPhone was done by double-pressing the home button and then swiping apps off the screen.
But with the launch of the iPhone X , and subsequent launch of the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, all of which are missing the iconic home button, navigating your iPhone now relies on gestures.

In this article, we’ll show you how to force close an app or multiple apps on iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

When you close an app on your iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max by swiping up on the Home bar, the app will remain open in the background, but most of its activities will be paused until you open it again. If the app can run background tasks, the app will continue to execute them until needed, such as Location Services, VoIP calls, and so on.

Most times, force stopping is the only option to kill an application that is draining battery from the background and you can do that by following the outlined steps below;

  • Swipe Up and HoldBring up the App Switcher by swiping up on the Home bar (from the bottom of the screen), holding your finger on the display for a split second and then removing it. You swipe up at a 45-degree angle to access the app switcher faster and get it right every single time.

  • Swipe Up With Multiple FingersInitially, you will only see cards for two iPhone apps. You can place your two fingers on the two app cards, and swipe up to close the apps.
